Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 90 cm (3 ft) or so. Branches spreading, slender, glabrous. Leaves 4-6 mm long, erect-spreading, imbricate or, on the ultimate branches, sometimes far distant, linear, acute, sulcate, glabrous. Blowers terminal, 4-nate, or sub-4-nate, often clustered into many-flowered heads, sessile; bracts approximate, 4-6 mm long, linear. Sepals 6-8 mm long, linear to linear-lanceolate, acuminate, keeled, rigid, scarious, ciliate. Corolla 1.6-2 cm long,1-1.5 mm wide, narrow-cylindrical, slightly and gradually widening at the throat, glabrous, dry, white, pink or red; lobes about 4 mm long, spreading, ovate, subacute, paler than the tube. Anthers included, 0.7 mm long, lateral, semiovate, muticous; pore 1/3 the length of the cell. Ovary sessile, glabrous; style included; stigma capitate.
