Characteristics

Erect, glabrous shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) or more. Branches slender, closely leafy. Leaves 3-nate, 6-10 mm long, adpressed, imbricate or scarcely so, narrow oval, sulcate, mucronate, gland-ciliate. Flowers terminal, 1-to 3-nate; peduncles 8 mm long, slender, viscid; bracts median, 5-7 mm long, linear. Sepals 1-1.25 cm long, linear-oblong, acute, concave, sulcate, viscid, gland-ciliate. Corolla up to 3.2 cm long, 3 mm wide, cylindrical with a slight swelling at the throat, viscid, white or pale rose with deeper red veins; lobes stellately spreading, about 10 mm, ovate, obtuse, white or striped. Filaments slender, dilated above; anthers included, 3 mm long, subcrescent-shaped, acuminate, acutely bilobed and prognathous at the base, pallid, muticous. Ovary cylindrical, subsessile; style included; stigma capitate.
