Characteristics

Low, erect or sprawling, glabrous shrublet up to 30 cm (1 ft) high. Branches ascending or spreading and turned up at the ends. Leaves 3-nate, 4-7 mm long, erect to spreading, imbricate, linear, sulcate. Flowers numerous in 3-to 6-flowered umbels; peduncles 8-14 mm long; bracts 5-7 mm long, remote, linear. Sepals 6-11 mm long, linear-lanceolate, acuminate. Corolla subampullaceous, inflated below, with a very long much attenuate neck, dilated at the throat to house the anthers, dry and wax-like in texture; tube 18-40 mm long; lobes 4-10 mm long, ovate, acute or acuminate, spreading. Stamens 8; filaments very long and narrow; anthers included, about 2 mm long or less, oblong, nearly straight, bilobed, lateral, bristled at the base, aristate; awns short, not reaching to the base of the anther, pale, hairy. Ovary elongate on a broadish, longer or shorter stipe, oblong-ovoid; style very long, exserted; stigma capitate.
