Characteristics

Erect shrub up to about 90 cm (3 ft). Branches ascending, pubigerous, with numerous short, lateral flowering branchlets. Leaves 3-nate, 3-5 mm long, linear to linear-lanceolate, trigonous, erect to spreading, imbricate, sulcate, glabrous, the younger minutely setose-ciliate. Flowers 3-nate or clustered, terminal, calycine; peduncles 2 mm long, pubescent; bracts closely clasping the sepals and similar to them but smaller and green keel-tipped. Sepals about 2 mm long, broad-ovate, very concave, keel-tipped, scarious, glabrous, shortly setose-ciliate, completely concealing the corolla, greenish. Corolla 2 mm long, cyathiform or subtubular, glabrous, dry, dirty white; lobes erect, obtuse. Filaments very broad; anthers exserted, 13 mm long, subterminal, oblong, subacute, bipartite, scabridulous, brown; pore 3/4 the length of the cell. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style exserted; stigma narrow-peltate, 4-toothed.
