Erect, stout shrub up to 43 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so or low and spreading. Branches pubescent. Leaves 4-nate, 4-8 mm long, erect to spreading, usually incurved, linear, subacute, stout, keeled or faintly sulcate, ciliolate or naked, glabrous or, rarely, pubescent, glossy. Flowers 4-nate, terminal, sometimes umbellate or pseudo-racemose; peduncles 3-8 mm long, pubescent; bracts median. Sepals 2-3 mm long, lanceolate to ovate, subacute, glabrous and glossy or puberulous, keeled, scarious-edged, ciliate, mostly coloured. Corolla 4-13 mm long, urceolate, ovoid-urceolate or suburccolate-cyathiform, more or less contracted at the throat, dry, glabrous, rosy. Anthers included, 1-1.3 mm long, lateral, oblong, subobtuse, dark-coloured, appendiculate; pore 1/2 the length of the cell; crests lanceolate or ovate, lacerate, lobed or minutely serrate, the length of the cell, rosy. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitate.
