Erect shrub up to about 30 cm (1 ft). Branches slender, rigid, mostly spreading and flexuous, the younger gland-pubescent. Leaves 3-nate, 3-5 mm long, erect to spreading, imbricate or, more rarely, distant, linear, narrow-oblong or linear-lanceolate, generally tipped with a rigid, white callosity, thick and deeply sulcate or, more rarely, subopen-backed, tomentose-pubescent, occasionally with gland-tipped hairs near the apex, at length glabrescent. Flowers axillary, 1 to 3 in each leaf-whorl towards the ends of the branches; peduncles 5-9 mm long, capillary or slender, ascending, straight or curved, persistent and elongating after flowering; bracts basal, foliaceous. Sepals 2-3 mm long, ovate-lanccoiate, foliaceous, dark-coloured, gland-pubescent. Corolla 6-7 mm long, ovoid to tubular-ovoid, glabrous, dry, rosy to darker red; lobes short, more or less upright, obtuse. Filaments slightly dilated at the base and tapering upwards, ciliate or naked; anthers exserted, 2-2.25 mm long, lateral, oblong or linear, muticous; pore1/5-1/4 of the cell. Ovary turbinate, glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitellate.
