Characteristics

Erect, glabrous, shrub up to 43 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so. Branches slender, mostly straight. Leaves 4-nate, 3-5 mm long, erect, imbricate, linear to lanceolate, slender, keeled. Flowers mosdy 4-nate, the upper sometimes umbellately clustered; peduncles 2-4 mm long; bracts foliaceous, median. Sepals linear-acuminate from an ovate, sometimes denticulate-edged, base, half as long as the corolla-tube or a little more. Corolla about 4 mm long, urceolate or cyathiform, closing slightly at the throat, white or, sometimes, pale pink. Anthers included, about 1 mm long, lateral, oblong, very obtuse, smooth, appendiculate; pore about 2/3 the length of the cell; crests oblong or ovate, acute, variously lacerate, papery, whitish. Ovary glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitate.
