Characteristics

Erect shrub up to about 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) with spreading branches. Leaves 4-to 6-nate, 2-4 mm long, densely imbricate, erect to spreading and recurved, oblong, obtuse, sulcate, long-ciliate. Flowers in 5-to 10-flowered umbels; peduncles 8 mm long, lanate; bracts subapproximate, 4 mm long, hirsute. Sepals 4-5 mm long, lanceolate or oblong, sulcate, more or less hirsute, very viscid. Corolla about 2.5 cm long, tubular, asymmetrically inflated, swollen at the throat, extremely viscid, red or orange with green lobes about 2 mm long. Filaments capillary, and thickened above; anthers manifest, 1 mm long, oblong, lateral, muticous; pore about 1/2 the length of the cell. Ovary narrow oblong, long-stipitate, glabrous; style included; stigma capitate, 4-lobed.
