Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) with stout, shrubby branches. Leaves 3-nate, 3-5 mm long, densely imbricate, linear-trigonous, sulcate, glabrous. Flowers terminal on short branchlets, 1-or 2-nate, forming rather dense spikes; peduncles about 3 mm long, gland-pubescent; bracts approx. 2.5 mm. long, broad-ovate, keeled, scarious, shortly gland-ciliate, coloured sepals 5 mm. long, like bracts but narrower. Corolla 0.9-1.3 cm long, tubular, cernuous, glabrous, viscid, crimson-red, with short, erect lobes. Filaments 1 mm wide, slightly broader than the anthers and more or less kinked below the articulation with them; anthers exserted, 5 mm long, subterminal, bipartite and divaricate, glabrous, muticous. Ovary glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitate.
