Characteristics

Erect, bushy shrub up to 40 cm (1 1/2 ft). Branches puberulous or glabrous. leaves 4-nate, 3-6 mm long, broadly lanceolate, trigonous, faintly sulcate, glabrous. Flowers in terminal umbels; peduncles 1.5 mm long, glabrous, red; bracts, 2 subapproximate, 1 median, red. Sepals 1.5 mm long, broad-lanceolate, keeled, glabrous, reddish. Corolla 3-4 mm long, globose or rarely ovoid, glabrous, viscid, purple-red; lobes short, upright, obtuse. Anthers included, 0.5 mm long, attached to the filaments near the middle of the cell, from elliptic to bluntly triangular, connivent round the stigma, villous with shred-like hairs, appendiculate; crests as long as the cells, sublanceolate, ciliate with hairs similar to the anthers, pale brown. Ovary glabrous, sometimes pubescent; style included; stigma capitate.
