Characteristics

Sparse erect shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) or so, glabrous. Branches ascending. Leaves 3-nate, occasionally 4-nate or irregular, 6-8 mm long including the long, pallid petiole of about 1 mm, squarrose-recurved, crowded, linear to oblanceolate, obtuse, with a callous at the apex, thick, keeled and faintly sulcate, closely ciliate with stiff gland-tipped hairs which sometimes extend to the revolute portions on either side of the keel. Flowers terminal and lateral, subracemose-umbellate, 3-, 4-or many-flowered; peduncles slender, varying much in length from 6 to 14 mm; bracts median, small, linear-lanceolate. Sepals 5 mm long, lanceolate, acute, subcoriaceous, green-keel-tipped, closely gland-ciliate, whitish. Corolla about 8 mm long, suburceolate, scarcely constricted at the throat, subviscid, white; lobes about 1/3 the length of the corolla, erect to slightly spreading, broad, obtuse. Anthers included, about 1-2 mm long, lateral, oblong-ovate or narrow-elliptical, obtuse, smooth, muticous; pore about 2/3 the length of the cell. Ovary turbinate, substipitate, glabrous; style included; stigma capitellate.
