Erect shrub up to 60 cm (2 ft) or so. Branches mostly lax and spreading, pubescent. Leaves 3-nate, 2-12 mm long (mostly 6-8), erect to spreading, imbricate and inclined to be tufted on short branchlets, linear to oblong, acute or obtuse, sulcate, glabrous, the younger minutely setose-ciliate. Flowers mostly 3-nate, terminal, calycine; peduncles 4-6 mm long, pubescent; bracts subapproximate or the lowest remote, sepal-like but smaller. Sepals 2-3 mm long, broad-ovate or subovate, keeled, very concave, scarious, glabrous, shortly ciliate, viscid, coloured like the corolla and a little longer than it. Corolla about 2 mm long, 3 mm wide, somewhat turnip-shaped or depressed-globose or sometimes suburceolate and scarcely depressed; lobes closely contracted round the stamens and about 1/3 as long as the corolla, obtuse. Filaments broad; anthers exserted, about 1 mm long, subterminal or terminal, more or less ovate, bipartite, minutely ciliate or naked, muticous; pore about 1/3 the length of the cell. Ovary globose, glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitate.
