Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 30 cm (1 ft) or so, glabrous in all parts. Branches numerous, ascending, slender, sometimes filiform, heaves 3-nate or rarely opposite, 2-5 mm long, spreading, not or occasionally imbricate, linear or narrow-oblong, acute, keeled, sulcate. Flowers 3-nate or, occasionally, pseudo-axillary; peduncles 2-4 mm long; bracts two, rarely three, median, usually small and often very small. Sepals 2-2.5 mm long, spreading, obovate or suborbicular, obtuse with a discoloured keeled tip. Corolla 2.5-3.0 mm long, conical-urceolate, very broad at the base and more or less contracted at the throat, often much contracted, of thin and hyaline texture, rosy, pale red or white; lobes about 1/4 the length of the tube, spreading, at length connivent and discoloured, ovate, acute. Anthers included, 0.25-0.7 mm long, lateral, oblong, cuneate, obtuse, appendiculate; pore 1/2-2/3 the length of the cell; crests variable, 1/3-1/2 the length of the cell, ovate, acute, minutely serrate or incised. Ovary subturbinate; style included; stigma capitate.
