Characteristics

Erect ot procumbent shrub up to 30 cm (1 ft) or so, glabrous in all parts. Leaves 3-nate, 4-6 mm long, with buds in the axils, erect-incurved, linear, flat above and rounded below, faintly sulcate. Flowers subsolitary and somewhat distant or crowded towards the ends of the branches, subcalycine; peduncles 6-11 mm long, slender, erect-decurved, red; bracts remote, minute. Sepals 2-3 mm long, lanceolate, acute, or obtuse, in some forms gamosepalous with a short tube, concave, cartilaginous, margins scarious, keel-tipped, red. Corolla 2-2.5 mm long, broad-cyathiform or subglobose-urceolate with mouth slightly widened, white or red; lobes 1/3 the length of the tube, spreading or erect, obtuse. Anthers exserted or manifest,1-1.2 mm long, suhlateral to subterminal, oblong or semi-lanceolate, subacute, tapering towards the base, muticous; pore nearly 1/2 the length of the cell. Ovary hemispherical, truncate above, glabrous; style exserted, decurved; stigma subsimple or capitellate.
