Characteristics

Erect to sprawling, woody shrub or shrublet, 0.5-1.0 m high. Leaves 4-nate, imbricate, patent (conspicuous in lower ones), ± 3-5 mm long, linear, thickened, acute, glabrous. Flowers 4-nate; pedicels slightly shorter than corolla, floccose-pilose; bracts 3, remote one oblong, other median. Calyx sepals wider than bracts, strongly keeled, slightly pilose to ciliate on margins, 3/4 length of corolla. Corolla 7-8 mm long, urceolate, red, finely hairy to shortly pilose, slightly attenuate just above base, finely striped longitudinally; lobes shorter than corolla, slightly patent. Filaments dorsally attached; anthers included; theca large, appendages long and fimbriate, 1/3 length of theca. Ovary glabrous; style included; stigma thickened. Flowering time Aug.-Nov.
