Characteristics

Erect, robust shrub up to 1.5 m(5 ft)or so. Branches puberulous and also beset with glandular-setose, squarrose hairs. leaves 4-nate, 2-3 mm long, spreading to squarrose, linear-oblong, obtuse, thick, sulcate or open-backed, hispid with coarse, tubercle-based, often gland-tipped hairs. Flowers terminal, 4-nate; peduncles 2 mm long, glabrous; bracts two approximate, one remote, small. Sepals 1 mm long, ovate or subovate, acute, keel-tipped, lacerate, subscarious. Corolla 2-3 1/2 mm long, urceolate, glabrous, dry, white; lobes short, erect to spreading, obtuse. Filaments much bent below the anther; anthers included to manifest, about 2/3 mm long, lateral, oblong, obtusely cuneate, minutely papillose, minutely ciliate, appendiculate; pore 1/2 the length of the cell; awns setaceous, minutely ciliate, about 1/2 the length of the cell. Ovary turbinate, hispidulous, chiefly on top; style exserted; stigma capitate.
