Characteristics

Erect shrub up to 30 cm (1 ft) or so. Branches ascending, pubescent. Leaves 3-nate, 4-5 mm long, erect-spreading, imbricate, linear, sub-obtuse, sulcate, thick, subrugulose (pitted), pallid, glaucous, viscidulous or dry, the younger gland-ciliate. Flowers terminal, 3-nate, calycine; peduncles 2 mm long, pubescent; bracts approximate, like the sepals but smaller, ovate, viscid. Sepals 3 mm long, broad-ovate to nearly orbicular, obtuse, keel-tipped, cartilaginous, transversely wrinkled when dry, very thick, viscid, shining and, in some specimens, the bracts and sepals having long excurrent keel-tips. Corolla 3 mm long, suburceolate, glabrous, viscid, white, about as wide as long; lobes more or less erect, 1 mm long, obtuse, ciliolate. Anthers exserted, 1 mm long, sublateral, oblong-incurved, obtuse, smooth, muticous; pore variable 3/5-7/8 the length of the cell. Ovary oblong, glabrous; style exserted; stigma clavate.
