Characteristics

Erect sparse shrub up to 45 cm or so (1 1/2 ft). Branches straight, with a few long, stiff hairs, glabrescent. Leaves 4-nate, 4-6 mm long, suberect, imbricate or about as long as the internodes in the older branches, linear-lanceolate, subobtuse, deeply sulcate or subopen-backed, rigidly hispid and pectinate-ciliate. Flowers 4-nate, terminal on short branchlets, cernuous; peduncles imm long, hispid; bracts approximate, about 4 mm long, lanceolate, foliaceous but paler and more naked below. Sepals 6 mm long, like the bracts but linear-lanceolate. Corolla up to 2 cm long, tubular, inflated about the middle, densely hispid with long, coarse, setose, yellow hairs, yellow or greenish-yellow; lobes about 2 mm long, erect or incurved, deltoid, subacute. Anthers included, 2 mm long, lateral, oblong, muticous; pore about 1.8 mm long. Ovary obconic, villous with white, silky hairs; style included or manifest; stigma capitate, large.
