Characteristics

Erect or diffuse, glabrous shrub up to 1-5 m (5 ft) or so. Leaves 3-nate, 2-5 mm long, slender, linear and acute or rather thick and obtuse, sulcate. Flowers 3-nate, terminal and lateral; peduncles about 2 mm long, decurved; bracts median rather variable, small. Sepals 2-3 mm long, lanceolate, acute, keeled. Corolla 2 mm long, campanulate or cyathiform, mouth widened, dry, white; lobes about equal to the tube, slightly spreading, obtuse or subacute. Filaments tapering upwards; anthers included, about 0.3 mm long, lateral, broad-ovate or subtriangular, the base nearly as wide as the length, subacute, pallid, appendiculate; pore 2/5-3/5 the length of the cell; awns about equal to the cell in length, setiform, rough. Ovary turbinate; style included or, rarely, manifest; stigma capitate to clavate-capitate.
