Erect, compact shrub up to 45 cm (1 1/2 ft) or so. Branches ascending virgate or flexuous, closely leafy, puberulous, soon becoming glabrous. Leaves scattered, 3-5 mm long, suberect, imbricate, linear, obtuse with apex subinflexed, sulcate, minutely and shortly viscid-pubescent, at length glabrous, gland-ciliolate. Flowers subcapitate-umbellate. 4-to 9-flowered, cernuous, corolline; peduncles 2 mm long, glabrous; bracts approximate, rarely subremote, linear, one slightly larger, foliaceous. Sepals 1-1.5 mm long, linear, foliaceous. Corolla 2.5-4 mm long, at first tubular, then urceolate, finally subovoid, viscid, glabrous, white, turning brown; lobes erect, short, 1/9-1/7 the length of the tube. Anthers exserted, about 1.5 mm long, lateral, clavate, subacute, smooth, pallid, muticous or decurrent-denticulate for about 1/6 the length of the cell; pore 2/5-1/2 the length of the cell. Ovary oblong, glabrous; style exserted; stigma capitate, lobed.
