Characteristics

Erect densely branched shrublet up to 1[-2] m tall, single-stemmed reseeder. Branches: numerous erect main branches with many secondary and tertiary short flowering branchlets 1-10 mm long, all both pubescent and hirsute, no infrafoliar ridges. Leaves 3-nate, erect, imbricate to spreading sometimes incurved, 1.5-3.0 mm long, narrowly ovate-linear to elliptic, narrowly sulcate, subacute, sparsely hispid, ciliate with short hairs and occasionally sessile glands intermixed, leaves below inflorescences often reduced and bracteose; petiole adpressed, 0.5-0.7 mm long, glabrous, sparsely ciliate. Inflorescence: flowers 3-nate in 2-4 whorls, a condensed raceme, terminal on main branches, with lower inflorescences reduced to 2 or 3 flowers terminal on very short 1 mm long lateral branchlets, all inflorescences aggregated into loose pseudospicate synflorescences; pedicel very short, 0.05-0.3 mm long or absent, glabrous; bract non-recaulescent or partially recaulescent from basal to subapproximate to the calyx, 0.4-1.0 mm long, leaf-like to bracteose and esulcate or all bracteose on secondary inflorescences, oblong to deltoid, glabrous, ciliate; bracteoles absent. Calyx 2-lobed and flat or sometimes 4-lobed in lowest whorl, rarely all 4-lobed, obtuse-angular, 1.0 x 0.8 mm, obovoid to cyathiform, grooved below the lobes, subglabrous to sparsely pubescent, green tinged with red; lobes 1/4-1/3 the length of calyx, broadly rounded to obtusely deltoid, sulcate tipped, ciliate. Corolla 2-lobed, 2.0-2.8 x 0.8 mm, tubular narrowing within calyx to tubular-funnelshaped, glabrous, pink; lobes erect to slightly spreading, broadly rounded, 1/8 the length of the tube. Stamens 4, free, exserted; filaments 2.4 mm long, linear, glabrous; anthers basifixed, bipartite, narrowly obovate, dark brown, without spurs; thecae erect becoming divergent, 0.8-1.0 mm long, linear to narrowly obovate, subfalcate, aculeate edged; pore V4 the length of theca; pollen in monads. Ovary 2-locular, 0.5 mm, ellipsoid to obovoid, obtuse, glabrous, with distinct nectaries around base; ovules 1 per locule, pendulous, placenta apical; style exserted, 3.2 mm long, glabrous; stigma subsimple truncate to subcyathiform. Fruit unknown.
