Characteristics

Perennial herb with several decumbent unbranched stems, 15–25 cm. long, from a stout simple rootstock ± 10 cm. long and 1 cm. wide.. Stems brown, minutely puberulous and glandular, with a few longer hairs at the nodes.. Leaflets 1–3 (the lowermost leaves often unifoliolate), elliptic, 2·2–6·7 cm. long, 1·3–4·2 cm. wide, the lateral leaflets usually narrower, acute or rounded but mucronulate at the apex, ± rounded at the base, glabrous save for scattered hairs on the margin and nerves beneath, glandular on both surfaces, almost 5-nerved from the base, the nerves prominent beneath; petiole 0·5–1·1 cm. long; rhachis 0·7–1·4 cm. long; petiolules 2 mm. long; stipules lanceolate, 6–10 mm. long, 1·5–3·5 mm. wide, puberulous and sparingly pilose, veined.. Racemes axillary, the flowering part 1·5–2 cm. long, 2·5–3 cm. wide; peduncle 5–12 cm. long, with adpressed hairs and numerous glands; pedicels 6 mm. long; bracts lanceolate, 3·5–6 mm. long, 1–2 mm. wide, puberulous and glandular, margins ciliate.. Calyx pilose with brown hairs, densely glandular, 5–6 mm. long, narrowly triangular, ± equalling the tube.. Standard reddish-brown outside, deep yellow veined reddish-brown inside, obovate, 1·2–1·5 cm. long, 0·7–1·2 cm. wide, rounded or emarginate, hairy in median area outside particularly towards the claw, densely glandular; wings yellow; keel pale yellowish-green, brownish at the tip..
