Characteristics

Leaves 3-foliolate; leaflets 2.5–7 × 1–3 cm, narrowly obovate, obovate-elliptic or in var. salicifolium narrowly elliptic, usually rounded or slightly emarginate but narrowly acute in var. salicifolium at the apex, cuneate at the base, velvety silky tomentose beneath, glandular punctate on both surfaces, particularly obvious in var. salicifolium; stipules very caducous; petiole 5–22 mm long; rhachis 6–13 mm long.

Corolla yellow with standard blue or greenish-brown at back; standard 1.5–2.2 × 1.4–1.5 cm, obovate, with claw 1.5–3 mm long, slightly auricled, densely appressed velvety pilose outside; wings oblong, blade 12–13 mm long with claw 2–3 mm long; keel 13 × 5.5 mm, obovate-oblanceolate, with claw 4 mm long.
Inflorescences terminal and axillary, dense and ± hidden among the leaves, 2.5–4 cm long including short peduncle; pedicels 3–5 mm long; bracts 4 × 2 mm, ovate-attenuate, tomentose.
Calyx densely white pubescent; tube c. 4 mm long; teeth very unequal, upper pair joined almost to apex, 2 mm long; laterals 2 mm long; lower tooth 3–4 mm long.
Seeds dark reddish-brown, 6 × 4.5 × 1.5 mm, oblong-ellipsoid in outline; hilum c. 5 mm long with rim aril c. 1 mm at its maximum width.
Pods 2.7 × 1.2 cm, narrowly obovate-elliptic, strongly compressed, densely appressed hairy.
