A shrub; twigs at first sparingly pubescent, soon glabrous; leaves short-petioled, thinly membranous, ovate-lanceolate, acute or obtuse, base narrow-cuneate, margin distantly glandular-crenate or subentire, 1-1.5 in. long, 0.5-0.75 in. wide, glabrous; petiole 1-1.5 lin. long; stipules modified into conical thorns 1 lin. long; flowers racemose, rather small; male racemes few-flowered, their peduncle slender, glabrous, 0.3-0.75 in. long; pedicels capillary, 1.5-2.5 lin. long, jointed near the base; bracts minute, each usually 2-3-flowered; calyx whitish, thinly membranous, deeply 4-lobed; lobes ovate, acute; stamens about 30, 10 outer, the rest central, accompanied by many ovate pilose inter-staminal glands and surrounded by 10 similar extra-staminal glands; filaments longer than the subglobose anther-cells; female flowers not seen.
