Characteristics

A hirsute shrub.. Twigs pale grey, sparingly lenticellate.. Petioles 0.5–1 cm. long; leaf-blade elliptic-lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, up to 22 cm. long and 8 cm. wide, long-acuminate, sometimes asymmetrically rounded-cuneate, shallowly and remotely denticulate to subentire, membranaceous, lateral nerves 6–8 pairs, camptodromous, scarcely prominent above, slightly so beneath, hirsute especially along the midrib and main nerves above and beneath, otherwise sparingly pubescent, purplish tinged when young, later green.. Stipules minute.. Male inflorescences pseudoracemose, up to 10 cm. long, the peduncles half as long as the inflorescences.. Male flowers: pedicels slender, up to 8 mm. long, glabrous, articulate at the base; calyx-lobes 3, elliptic, 3 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide, obtuse, glabrous, pale green, translucent; extrastaminal glands 0, interstaminal stipitate, truncate, glabrous; stamens 34, 2 mm. long.. Female inflorescences subpaniculate, up to 7 cm. long, the peduncles up to 5 cm. long.. Female flowers: pedicels 2 mm. long, glabrous, articulate at the base; calyx-lobes 2(–3), broadly ovate, 0.75 mm. long and wide, acute or subacute, glabrous, green with hyaline margins; disc biglandular, the glands turbinate, truncate; ovary bilobate, 1 mm. in diameter, glabrous; styles 2, connate at the base, 1 mm. long, recurved, stigmas papillose..
