Characteristics

Female flowers: pedicels 2 mm long, sparingly pubescent; calyx lobes 3, c. 1 × 1.25 mm, broadly ovate-suborbicular, subacute or obtuse, glabrous, ciliate, pale greenish-yellow; disk glands 3, petaloid, slightly smaller than the calyx lobes, triangular-ovate, pubescent, thick, creamy-yellow; ovary less than 1 mm in diameter, 3-lobed, evenly pubescent; styles 3, c. 1 mm long, free, spreading, laciniate, ± glabrous, persistent.

Male flowers: pedicels slender, lengthening to 1 cm at anthesis, glabrous, jointed near the base; buds 1 mm in diameter, depressed-subglobose, apiculate, glabrous; calyx lobes 4–6, 1 × 0.6 mm, ovate; extrastaminal disk glands 6, flattened, truncate, puberulous at the apex, ± fused into a shallow cup; interstaminal glands liguliform, apically pubescent; stamens 15–30, c. 1 mm long, anthers minute.
Leaves 1.5–9.5 × 1–4 cm, elliptic-obovate to-ovate, obtuse or subacute at the apex, shallowly glandular crenate-serrate to subentire on the margin, cuneate or attenuate into the petiole, membranous, sparingly puberulous on the midrib and main nerves beneath, otherwise glabrous; 3–4-nerved from the base, lateral nerves in 3–4 pairs, ascending, scarcely looped, slightly prominent.
Male inflorescences up to 4 cm long, with the peduncle to 1.5 cm long, interruptedly racemose; bracts 1 mm long, ovate, ciliate.
Female inflorescences up to 8 mm long, with the peduncle c. 1–3 mm long, racemose, few-flowered.
Stipules 2–4 mm long, narrowly conical to subulate, spinescent, glabrous, thorn-like.
Young shoots, petioles and inflorescence axes evenly to sparingly puberulous.
Fruit 7 × 4 mm, tricoccous, sparingly puberulous, very pale green.
