Eulalia trispicata (Schult.) Henrard

Species

Angiosperms > Poales > Poaceae > Eulalia

Characteristics

Perennial. Culms 50–130 cm high, densely tufted, unbranched, glabrous; base not distinctly bulbous, glabrous, cataphylls absent; nodes glabrous. Leaves: ligule a fringe of hairs on a short membrane, c. 0.5–1 mm long (hairs and membrane) as well as long hairs up to 3.5 mm long; blade 4–63 cm long, 1–5 mm wide. Inflorescences subdigitate or digitate racemes; racemes 5–8 per inflorescence, rarely fewer (BKS, ined., reported 2 racemes but n.v. by RAK), with 22–43 spikelet pairs, 6–13 cm long with pale tawny-coloured or white hairs; raceme internodes 1.6–2 mm long, slightly longer than pedicels or similar in length, densely villous on margins. Spikelets narrowly elliptic, linear or lanceolate, 2.4–3.6 mm long, c. 0.8 mm wide; callus c. 0.4 mm long; lower glume shape and size as per spikelet, upper ⅓ tapering into acute apex but very narrowly truncate at the very tip, flattened between keels, pale brown at apex becoming reddish brown at base, ciliate on keels; upper glume lanceolate or narrowly ovate, upper ⅓ tapering into acute apex but very narrowly truncate at the very tip, as long as lower, colours as per lower glume, slightly hairy towards apex or halfway along keel; lower lemma linear, 2–3 mm long, glabrous; upper lemma, c. 1.5 mm long (including lobes); awn 11–13 mm long.
More
Perennial, tussocky; basal sheaths glabrous. Culms slender, 0.3–1.2 m tall, ca. 2 mm in diam., nodes glabrous, glabrous or infrequently thinly pilose below inflorescence. Leaf sheaths usually glabrous or upper margin pilose; leaf blades linear, 10–40 × 0.2–0.6 cm, abaxial surface glabrous, adaxial surface pilose especially at base, apex finely acuminate; ligule very short, ca. 0.5 mm, margin ciliate. Racemes 3–16, subdigitate or inserted on a short axis to 1.5 cm, 4–15 cm, hairs silvery white; rachis internodes and pedicels ca. 1/2 spikelet length, densely ciliate, hairs longer at apex. Sessile spikelet 2.5–4.5 mm, chestnut brown or purplish; callus hairs short, ca. 0.5 mm; lower glume narrowly oblong-lanceolate, papery, back flat, lower flanks villous, upper keels ciliate, veinless between keels, apex narrowly truncate, entire or bimucronate; upper lemma linear, 2-toothed to about middle; awn 0.7–2 cm. Anthers 2–2.8 mm. Fl. and fr. autumn. 2n = 20.
