Annual herb to 45 cm. high with spreading branches, the whole plant pilose including the flowering parts, with white spreading hairs; stems sometimes slightly swollen and succulent, stem and branches longitudinally grooved.. Leaves ovate to ovate-lanceolate, to 4 × 2 cm., base cuneate, apex obtuse to rounded, margin entire, upper surface often glabrous; petiole to 25 mm. long; stipules vestigial.. Cymes axillary, 1–2-forked; bracts subsessile, subcircular, to 5 mm. in diameter.. Cyathia on peduncles to 8 mm. long, 1.75 × 3 mm. long, with funnel-shaped involucres; glands 4, transversely elliptic, 1 × 1.5 mm., reddish yellow, hairy on both surfaces; lobes circular, 0.75 mm. in diameter, densely ciliate.. Male flowers: bracteoles very few, ligulate, apex ciliate; stamens 2.25 mm. long.. Female flower: ovary densely pubescent; styles 2 mm. long, joined at the base, distinctly bifid at the apex, pubescent.. Capsule exserted on a curved pilose pedicel 1.75 mm. long, 3-lobed, with truncate base, 3.5 × 4.5 mm.. Seeds conical, with acute apex and 2 horizontal constrictions, 2.5 × 2 mm., black to blackish brown.
