Shrubby succulent perennial, sparingly branched, erect to 1.5 m. high; branches 4-angled, ± 1 cm. thick, bright green; angles shallowly toothed with teeth to 1.5 cm. apart.. Spinescence pale grey; spine-shields elongated, to ± 3 × 2 mm. above the spines, decurrent to shortly above the flowering eye below; spines to 6 mm. long; prickles to 1.5 mm. long.. Leaves deltoid, ± 1.5 × 1.5 mm.. Cymes solitary, subsessile, 1-forked; bracts subquadrate, ± 1.5 × 1.5 mm.. Cyathia ± 2.5 × 5 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands transversely rectangular, ± 1 × 2.5 mm., contiguous, yellowish becoming red; lobes transversely elliptic, ± 1 × 1.5 mm.. Male flowers: bracteoles fan-shaped, dentate; stamens 3 mm. long.. Female flower: styles 2.5 mm. long, joined at the base, apices thickened.. Capsule sessile, obtusely 3-lobed, ± 2.8 × 4.5 mm.. Seeds ovoid, 2.2 × 1.8 mm., brown, minutely tuberculate.
