Cyathia sessile, 3 × 3.5 mm, with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, rarely 5 on those primary cyathia which develop all-male flowers, spreading, 1.5 × 2–2.5 mm, transversely oblong, outer margin entire to shallowly sinuate with 2 minute horns, golden-yellow; lobes rounded, 1 mm long with 2 shallow teeth at the apex, ciliate at the margin.
Glabrous perennial herb; rootstock woody, c. 1 cm thick, producing numerous annual stems; stems usually unbranched, erect to 30 cm tall.
Leaves sessile, slightly fleshy; lamina to 2.5 × 1 cm, oblanceolate, acute to ± obtuse at the apex, apiculate, with entire margins.
Cymes occasionally axillary, usually in terminal 3–7-branched umbels, with primary rays to 3 cm long, each forking c. 4 times.
Bracts sessile, yellowish-green, to 1.5 × 1.5 cm, deltoid, obtuse to rounded at the apex, apiculate, subcordate at the base.
Seeds 3 × 2–4 mm, ovoid, smooth, grey, speckled with brown; caruncle 0.5 mm across, cream-coloured.
Female flower: styles 1.5 mm long, joined at the base, with spreading apices bifid for one-third.
Male flowers many: bracteoles ligulate, with ciliate apices; stamens 4 mm long.
Capsule exserted on a pedicel to 6 mm long, 4 × 4.5 mm, conspicuously 3-lobed.
