Branches prostrate to suberect, 30–75 cm long, 8–10 mm in diameter, 4-angled, yellowish to grey with the angles ± purplish; angles with shallow tubercles 12–14 mm apart along the margins.
Cyathia 2.5 × 4.5 mm, with cup-shaped involucres; glands 2.25 × 1.25 mm, transversely oblong-elliptic, touching, spreading, yellow; lobes 1.5 × 1.5 mm, denticulate, yellow.
Spine shields c. 8 × 1.5 mm, narrowly triangular, brown; spines 7–9 mm long; prickles c. 2 mm long, 1–1.5 mm above the spines, widely diverging.
Cymes solitary, simple; peduncles to 1.5 mm long, cyme branches to 1.25 mm long; bracts c. 1.5 × 2 mm, semicircular.
Female flower: styles c. 4 mm long, united for c. 1 mm, then spreading and recurved, yellowish, apices thickened.
Male flowers 7–9, far exserted: bracteoles c. 2 mm long, filiform, fimbriate; stamens 4 mm long.
Seeds 1.3 × 1.8 mm, broadly ovoid, verrucose, brown with irregular blotches.
Capsule 3.25 × 4.5 mm, obtusely lobed, subsessile.
Leaves 1 × 1 mm, deltoid, deciduous.
