Cyathia on peduncles 2–3 mm long or the central peduncle of the umbel to 1.5 cm long, c. 3 × 5 mm, with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, or 5 on the central cyathium, to 1.5 mm broad, transversely elliptic, with 2 horns 1.5–2 mm long; lobes c. 1 mm long, broadly deltoid, margin ciliate with long hairs.
Leaves sessile; stipules glandular, minute, rarely obvious; lamina to 9 × 1.5 cm, obovate-lanceolate, rounded at the apex and apiculate, cuneate at the base, entire.
Bracts sessile, c. 2 × 2 cm, the lower ones larger and longer, deltoid, apiculate at the apex, truncate to subcordate at the base.
Seeds 3 × 2.5 mm, subglobose, with a longitudinal dorsal ridge and obscure rows of small sharply pointed warts.
Female flower: ovary pedicellate; styles 2 mm long, joined for 0.5 mm, with roughened shortly bifid apices.
Cymes axillary and in 3–5-branched umbels, with primary rays to 12 cm long, each forking 3–4 times.
Glabrous perennial herb with a thick fleshy rhizomatous rootstock and annual stems to 60 cm high.
Male flowers: bracteoles deeply laciniate with feathery apices; stamens 4 mm long.
Capsule exserted on a pedicel to 1 cm long, 4 × 6 mm, shallowly 3-lobed.
