Characteristics

Glabrous shrubby perennial herb to 3 m. high, woody at base.. Leaves obovate, to 20 × 5.5 cm., base cuneate tapering gradually towards the base of the petiole, apex acute and markedly apiculate, margin entire, lamina slightly fleshy, dark green and shiny above with the midrib prominent on the lower surface; petiole to 1 cm. long.. Cymes in 3–6-branched umbels, with primary rays to 8(–13) cm. long, forking 3–5 times; bracts subcircular, ± 1 cm. long, apex markedly apiculate.. Cyathia on peduncles to 4(–6) mm. long, 3 × 5–7 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, transversely rectangular, 1.5 × 2–2.5 mm., outer margin shallowly 2-lobed to crescent-shaped with lobes to 1.2 mm. long; involucral lobes deltoid, 1 mm. long, margin ciliate, apex shortly 2-lobed.. Male flowers: bracteoles fan-shaped, divided to the base many times into feathery filaments; stamens 4 mm. long.. Female flowers: styles 2.5 mm. long, joined for 1/3, with spreading apices bifid for 1/3.. Capsule exserted on a pedicel to 1.2 mm. long, deeply 3-lobed, 5–5.5 × 7–8 mm..
