Characteristics

Dioecious or monoecious, spineless, glabrous, succulent shrub, up to 0.6 m tall, branching mainly from base, branches 1-3(-5) mm diam., terete, brittle, green, smooth, not articulated. Leaves soon deciduous, shortly spathulate, 1-1.5 mm long, lower half pressed into branch, with small, shiny, brownish stipules. Cyathia many, 1-3 together terminating some branches, 3-4 mm diam., with 5 green glands. Capsule sessile, 3-5(7) mm diam., green, with red stripes on angles and in sinuses, shiny and glabrous.
