Characteristics

Branching succulent perennial erect to 1 m. high; branches 4-angled, 5–8 mm. thick; angles very shallowly toothed with teeth 5–8 mm. apart.. Spine-shields oblong-triangular, ± 1 × 1 mm. above the spines, decurrent to ± 2.5 mm. and half-way to the flowering eye below; spines very slender, to 6 mm. long; prickles 1–2 mm. long.. Leaves acutely deltoid, ± 1 × 1 mm.. Cymes solitary, 1-forked, sessile; bracts subquadrate, ± 1.2 × 1.2 mm.. Cyathia ± 2 × 4.5 mm., with funnel-shaped involucres; glands transversely rectangular, ± 1 × 2 mm., contiguous, yellow; lobes transversely elliptic, ± 0.8 × 1 mm.. Male flowers: bracteoles fan-shaped, dentate; stamens 3.5 mm. long.. Female flower: styles 3 mm. long, joined at the base for 0.5 mm., apices thickened.. Capsule sessile, obtusely 3-lobed, ± 2.5 × 4 mm.. Seeds ovoid, 1.8 × 1.5 mm., buff, shallowly tuberculate.
