Cyathia 3 × 3.5–4 mm, with funnel-shaped involucres; glands 1.5–2 mm wide, transversely oblong, touching, yellow; lobes 1 × 1 mm, rounded, fimbriate.
Spine shields joined to form a horny margin along the angles, or spine shields separate; spines 5–7.5 mm long, slender; prickles 0.5–2 mm long.
Spiny succulent shrub to 1 m high, densely branched from the base, or tree-like to 3.5 m high with a central stem.
Capsule obtusely angled, 5 mm in diameter, exserted on a recurved pedicel to 7 mm long.
Female flower: styles to 2 mm long, free almost to the base, apices spreading, bifid.
Male flowers: bracteoles 2.5 mm long, laciniate; stamens c. 3.5 mm long.
Cymes solitary, simple, subsessile; bracts 1.5 × 1.5 mm, scale-like.
Seeds 2–2.5 mm in diameter, subglobose.
Leaves to 20 × 6 mm, ovate, deciduous.
