Perennial herb, up to 150 mm high. Root tuberous with underground stems from which herbaceous branches arise. Branches erect, thinly to thickly covered with rather long spreading hairs, sometimes glabrous. Leaves lax or many, shape variable, 6-30 x 2-11 mm, usually glabrous, sometimes densely white-hairy. Flowers: involucre 2-6 mm in diameter; involucral glands entire or minutely crenulate, green and red; Sep.-Dec.
