Characteristics

Woody shrub 30–40 cm. high, with spreading branches puberulous when young.. Leaves alternate or fasciculate on much abbreviated branchlets, sessile, obovate to oblanceolate, to 4.5 × 1 cm., base cuneate, apex obtuse, margin entire, lamina glabrous except for occasional hairs at the base; glandular stipules pointed.. Cymes reduced to solitary, terminal cyathia; bracts leaf-like, ± 2 × 4 mm.. Cyathia subsessile, ± 2.5 × 5.5 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands 5, circular, ± 2 mm. in diameter, funnel-shaped to deeply saucer-shaped; lobes transversely oblong, ± 1.5 × 2 mm., margin fringed.. Male flowers: bracteoles deeply laciniate, with feathery apices; stamens ± 3.5 mm. long.. Female flower: ovary subsessile, densely pubescent; styles ± 2 mm. long, joined halfway, with spreading thickened bifid apices.. Capsule obtusely 3-lobed, ± 6 × 5 mm., pubescent.. Seeds subglobose, 2.5 × 3 mm., smooth, grey, mottled.
