Straggly succulent shrub with erect or decumbent branches rooting where they touch the ground, to 2 m. high, sparingly rebranched above; branches 4(–5)-angled, to ± 2 cm. thick, green with usually regular darker patches along the angles; angles straight to shallowly undulate.. Spine-shields elongated, to 5 × 2 mm. above the spines, narrowly decurrent to 15 mm. and 1–7 mm. above the flowering eye below, or forming a continuous horny margin with spine-pairs to 2.5 cm. apart; spines 1–6 mm. long, occasionally absent; prickles vestigial.. Leaves deltoid, ± 1.5 × 1.5 mm., margin very obscurely toothed.. Cymes solitary, 1-forked with stout peduncles and cyme-branches 2–3 mm. long, yellow or red; bracts triangular, ± 1.5 × 2 mm.. Cyathia ± 3 × 6 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands transversely oblong, ± 1.4 × 3 mm., contiguous; lobes transversely elliptic, 1.2 × 2 mm.. Male flowers: bracteoles fan-shaped, deeply laciniate, fimbriate; stamens 3.8 mm. long.. Female flower: styles 1.8 mm. long, joined at the base, apices much thickened, rugose.. Capsule exserted on a reflexed pedicel ± 5 mm. long, sharply 3-lobed, ± 3 × 5.5 mm.. Seeds ovoid, 2.2 × 2 mm., grey, shallowly tuberculate.
Can be grown by cuttings or seedlings. Seeds needs soaking.
