Characteristics

Glabrous succulent, 70-200 mm high, with truncate stem 30-100 mm thick, projecting from ground up to 60 mm, with many spreading, cylindrical branches 40-400 x 6-12 mm on sides sometimes with persistent dried-out peduncles, grey-green. Leaf-rudiments 1-3 x 1 mm, ovate. Cyathia on stout, often deciduous peduncle 3-5 mm long, 8-13 mm in diam.; glands 5, dark green, outer margins with antler-like white processes. Flowering time Sept.-Dec. Capsule 5-6 mm in diam., glabrous to sparsely pubescent.

Like E. caput-medusae but branches thinner, 10-12 mm diam., cyathia smaller, 8-9 mm diam., with many conspicuous bracteoles among flowers giving it a woolly appearance, and glands with white processes.
A succulent herb. It grows 50 cm wide and the branches are 25 cm long. They spread out like fingers from a central stem. These have white flowers that have a scent.
