Characteristics

Cyathia c. 3 × 4 mm, with cup-shaped involucres, yellowish to red; glands 2–2.5 × 1 mm, transversely oblong, yellow-reddish; lobes c. 1 × 1 mm, fan-shaped, ± bilobed, irregularly denticulate.

Branches spreading, often trailing with adventitious roots developing, c. 1 cm in diameter, 4-angled; angles sinuate with tubercles 2 mm high and c. 1.5 mm apart along the margins.
Spine shields 1.5 mm wide, narrowing and decurrent to 12 mm long, brown to whitish; spines widely diverging, up to 6(8) mm long; prickles c. 2 mm long from 2 mm above the spines.
Cymes solitary, simple; peduncles stout, c. 0.5 mm long, cyme branches c. 1.5 mm long; bracts c. 1 × 0.5 mm, broadly triangular.
Male flowers 5 or 10: fascicular bracts and bracteoles 2.5 mm long, laciniate, fimbriate; stamens 4 mm long, anthers purplish.
Female flower: styles c. 3.5 mm long, united for 1.5 mm, stigmas spreading, shortly bifid.
Spiny succulent subshrub to 1 m high, branching from the base, sparingly branched above.
Seed c. 1 × 1.5 mm, broadly ellipsoid, dark brown, densely verrucose.
Capsule c. 4.5 × 5 mm, obtusely lobed; pedicel c. 1.5 mm long.
Leaves 1.25 × 1 mm, sessile, caducous.
