Dwarf, spineless, glabrous, few-to many-branched succulent, 20-150 mm high with subterranean stem 20-50 mm thick, branches 10-30 mm thick, sometimes rhizomatous, 4-or 5-angled, glaucous to dark green. Leaf-rudiments 2-5 x 1-2 mm, linear to subulate. Cyathia solitary on each deciduous, glabrous peduncle 1-4 mm long, 3.5-5.0 mm in diam.; exceeded by rosette of 3-5 obovate, glabrous and apically finely toothed bracts 3-6 mm long beneath cyathium; glands 5, yellow-green, folding into inverted cone. Flowering time Nov.-Apr., depending on rain. Capsule 4-6 mm in diam., obtusely 3-angled, glabrous.
