Characteristics

Succulent, dwarf shrub, 150-220 mm high, 100-150 mm in diameter; spineless, tuberous root, with 1-few aerial stems. Branches soft, flexible, opposite, repeatedly forked, 1-4 mm wide when dry, internodes 4-12 mm long. Leaves opposite, rudimentary, soon deciduous. Flowers: in cymes or solitary, terminal, a flowering branchlet growing out from axil of one or both bracts; bracts under involucre spathulate; involucre glabrous outside; involucral glands with minute lobes; ovary exserted 2-4 mm.

Dioecious, dwarf, spineless, glabrous succulent, up to 80-150 mm tall, with several short, often horizontally spreading, slightly angled branches, 4-8 mm diam. Leaves soon deciduous, shortly petiolate, spathulate, 1-2 mm long, fleshy. Cyathia few, solitary and terminating some branches, nearly sessile, with 2-4 tiny, leaf-like bracts, 1.5-2 mm diam., with 4 or 5 yellow-green glands. Capsule exserted on recurved pedicel, 2.5-3.5 mm diam., glabrous.

Capsule 2.5-3.5 mm in diam., obtusely 3-angled, glabrous, exserted for 2-5 mm.
