Characteristics

Dwarf, spineless, glabrous succulent, 30-300 mm high, usually with single unbranched ± spherical stem 25-140 mm thick, 7-12-angled; green usually with darker green to purple horizontal bands. Leaf-rudiments 1-5 x 0.5-1.0 mm, linear. Cyathia 1-many on finely pubescent often much-branched persistent peduncle 2-30 mm long, 2.5-6.0 mm in diam.; glands 5, pale green to reddish, entire. Flowering time Sept.-Nov.(-Apr.). Capsule 6-7 mm in diam., ± spherical, glabrous to finely pubescent.
