Characteristics

Cyathia terminal and pseudoaxillary, solitary on peduncles to 2 mm long, c. 1.5 × 1.5 mm with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, 0.5 mm wide, transversely elliptic, with fairly conspicuous white to pink appendages, the 2 on either side of the gap through which the capsule is exserted are slightly larger and up to 1.5 × 2 mm; lobes triangular, ciliate.

Leaves with a petiole c. 1 mm long; stipules 0.5 mm long, divided from a broad base into 3–5 linear teeth; lamina to 25(30) × 3.5(5) mm, linear to linear-lanceolate, apex apiculate, base obliquely rounded, margin entire.
Annual herb, up to 350 mm tall, usually glabrous, often tinged red. Leaves subsessile, lanceolate, up to 18 x 4 mm. Stipules not longer than 1 mm, triangular. Flowers reddish brown and white.
Capsule exserted on a recurved pedicel to 3.5 mm long, 2.5 × 2.5 mm, acutely 3-lobed with truncate base.
Female flower: ovary pedicellate; styles 1.25 mm long, joined at the base, bifid for one-third.
Seeds 1.3 × 0.9 mm, oblong-conical with c. 3 transverse ridges and grooves, reddish-brown.
Glabrous annual herb, erect to 25 cm tall with laxly spreading branches.
