Characteristics

Erect subshrub or shrub to 1.5 (–3) m high, perennial, branching, glabrous. Stems relatively few, marked with crescent-shaped leaf scars, not articulate, ± succulent, with white latex. Leaves alternate, sessile, very narrowly oblanceolate to oblanceolate, (2–) 5–10 cm long, (0.4–) 1–1.3 cm wide, truncate to ± cuneate or attenuate at base, symmetrical, entire, acute to obtuse at apex, gland-tipped, thin to subcoriaceous, midrib raised below. Inflorescence terminal to subterminal, subumbellate, with 1–5 cyathia; peduncle 1–2 cm long. Cyathia cupulate, c. 5 mm long, c. 6 mm wide; glands 4 or 5, 1.5–2 mm wide, olive green. Ovary not exserted at anthesis. Capsule globose, 11–12 mm long, 10–11 mm diam., glaucous. Seeds ovoid to broadly ovoid-cylindrical, 3.5–4 mm long, smooth, with a small caruncle. For more detailed description see Forster (1995).
