Characteristics

Dwarf, spineless, glabrous succulent, 30-200 mm high, with single, unbranched, ± spherical stem 40-100 mm thick, 7-10-angled, grey-green to brown with dull purple, horizontal bands. Leaf-rudiments ± 1 x 1 mm, oblong. Cyathia 1-3 on each deciduous, finely pubescent peduncle 2-12 mm long, 2.5-6.0 mm in diam.; glands 5, dark green to red, flat. Flowering time Oct.-Apr., depending on rain. Capsule 6-7 mm in diam., ± spherical, glabrous.
