Annual herb ± 30 cm. high, with spreading branches, the whole plant puberulous with short spreading hairs; stem and branches longitudinally grooved.. Leaves linear to 30 × 3 mm., margin entire; petiole to 8 mm. long; stipules vestigial.. Cymes axillary or terminal, forking once; bracts subsessile, ovate, to 3 mm. long.. Cyathia on peduncles to 1.5 mm. long, 1.75 × 2.5 mm., with funnel-shaped involucres; glands 4, quadrangular, 1 × 1 mm., reddish, hairy on both surfaces; lobes obovate, ciliate, 1 mm. long.. Male flowers: bracteoles linear, ciliate; stamens 2 mm. long.. Female flower: ovary densely puberulous; styles 1.25 mm. long, joined at the base, minutely bifid, puberulous.. Capsule exserted on a slightly curved pedicel 2.25 mm. long, 3-lobed, with truncate base, 3 × 3.5 mm., surface minutely papillose, and pubescent with short curved hairs.. Seeds conical, apex acute, obscurely 4-angled, with 2 deep horizontal constrictions, 2 × 1.4 mm., black with minutely wrinkled surface.
