Cyathia subsessile, 1.7 × 2 mm, with cup-shaped involucres, glabrous or with a few very short appressed hairs around the top; glands 4, 0.8 × 0.5 mm, transversely elliptic with a thin paler rim on the outer margin; lobes 0.5 mm long, triangular, ciliate.
Capsule exserted on a curved pedicel to 2.5 mm long, 3.5 × 3 mm, oblong, obtusely 3-lobed, sparsely covered with short appressed hairs especially on the upper half, rarely entirely glabrous.
Annual or short-lived perennial herbs to 60 cm high, glabrous, with a main stem to 15 cm high, woody-based; branches with prominent calloused scars from fallen leaves and cyathia.
Seeds 2.3 × 1.8 mm, oblong-rectangular, dorsally flattened, surface distinctly verrucose, grey; caruncle 1 mm across, pale brown.
Female flower: ovary glabrous or pubescent; styles 1 mm long, joined at the base, with apices bifid to halfway.
Cymes axillary and in 3-branched umbels forking many times, with primary rays to 15 cm long.
Male flowers: bracteoles few, strap-shaped, ciliate; stamens 1.5 mm long.
Bracts leaf-like.
