Annual with branching stems erect to 35 cm. high, glabrous except occasionally for a few long, scattered hairs on the basal branches and leaves, the whole plant often tinged red.. Leaves subsessile, lanceolate, to 18 × 4 mm., base obliquely rounded to subcordate, apex rounded apiculate, margin entire in the lower half, serrated in the upper half, sometimes obscurely so; stipules ± 1 mm. long, linear and toothed at the broader base.. Cyathia solitary on peduncles 1 mm. long, terminal and pseudoaxillary on short leafy shoots, 1 × 1 mm., with cup-shaped involucres; glands 4, minute, transversely elliptic, often red, with minute pink or red lobed appendages; involucral lobes triangular, toothed, 0.5 mm. long.. Male flowers few: bracteoles filamentous; stamens 1 mm. long.. Female flower: ovary pedicellate; styles ± 0.5 mm. long, bifid almost to the base.. Capsule exserted on a reflexed pedicel 1.5 mm. long, acutely 3-lobed, 1.5 × 1.5 mm.. Seeds oblong-conical, 1 × 0.5 mm., pinkish brown, with 3–4 distinct transverse wrinkled ridges and grooves..
